Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin showcased their camaraderie at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, sharing not just a warm hug but also a ride in Putin’s Aurus Senat limousine.

According to sources, President Putin waited nearly 10 minutes for PM Modi so the two could travel together from the summit venue to the bilateral meeting hotel. During the ride, they engaged in wide-ranging discussions and even continued conversing for 45 minutes after reaching the venue.

In a post on X, PM Modi reflected on the moment, writing: “After the proceedings at the SCO Summit venue, President Putin and I travelled together to the venue of our bilateral meeting. Conversations with him are always insightful.”

The subsequent bilateral meeting lasted over an hour. PM Modi later described it as “excellent”, noting that they explored ways to deepen cooperation across trade, fertilisers, space, security, and culture, while also addressing regional and global developments, including the Ukraine conflict.

“Our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership remains a vital pillar of regional and global stability,” the Prime Minister added.

Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of strengthening economic, financial, and energy ties while underscoring the urgency of pursuing peace in Ukraine. PM Modi reiterated India’s support for ongoing initiatives aimed at ending hostilities and achieving a durable settlement.
